About Me

Born in a rural village in West Wales, Leanne remembers her primary school teachers prophesising that she would one day become a teacher. Soon enough, she left university and began working as an English language teacher, which enabled her to travel and meet people from various cultures and backgrounds. After five years of working in international schools, Leanne studied to become an English teacher. She

started her career in a pupil-referral unit in North London before spending
five years teaching in inner-city South London schools. Leanne moved to Melbourne at the beginning of 2019 and has been working in a government school since.

Over the years, Leanne has seen an increase in the decline in students' mental health. Wanting a deeper understanding to be able to support students, Leanne enrolled in the Masters of Applied Positive Psychology at Melbourne University. Here, she learnt the science of wellbeing and how it can be applied so that intervention is proactive and not reactive.

Working in a school setting, Leanne is aware of the shortage of teachers and how many leave the profession, with teaching claimed to be one of the most stressful professions in developing nations (Gallup, 2014). As a mentor for graduate teachers, Leanne discovered how little student-teachers are taught about looking after their own wellbeing at the start of their careers. Teaching is an incredibly rewarding, yet challenging occupation and prioritising teachers' wellbeing makes for a more conducive learning environment for both teachers and students.

Leanne is passionate about helping people live their best possible lives and with her experience as a teacher and mentor can empathise with the challenges of a school environment. Leanne's vision is to ensure all schools are equipped with the knowledge and understanding of how to implement positive psychology practices into the school system.

My mission

Named after a Welsh hymn, ‘Calon Lan’ translates to ‘Pure Heart.’ The song’s words describe that in life, we don’t need riches or jewels and all we need is a happy, honest and pure heart. This encapsulates our vision - to ensure that everyone lives with a happy heart. Our mission is to reach out to young people, their teachers and their schools to promote wellbeing both in and out of the classroom.
